Food for Thought III (You Win Some, You Lose Some)

Cumin-infused Vegetables and Chickpeas over Quinoa from Fat Free Vegan (full recipe in link) – WIN!  I love it when I see an ingredient in a recipe list and think, “Really?  That?  In there?” and then it totally works.  The raisins made this dish.  I couldn’t stop eating it.

Andrea’s Puttanesca – Lose.  It looked pretty enough, but it was pretty bland.  Won’t be repeating this one.

Sweet and Sour Tempeh – This wasn’t a favorite either.  I’ve made a very similar dish using her teriyaki sauce from the same book and it was muuuuuch better.

Chili-Sweet Mango Noodles – I hate mangoes.  Not their flavor.  They’re freaking delicious!  But I HATE, HATE, HATE cutting them!  They’re so damn juicy and sticky!  But DAMNIT they were good in this!  To be honest, I wasn’t overly impressed by this one either when I ate it right out of the skillet.  But when I ate it cold out of the fridge for lunch the next day?  It was a completely different dish.  If I make this one again, I’ll definitely make it ahead and eat it cold!

Indian Spiced Chickpeas and Kale – Mmmmmm, kale.  Big win!  This recipe says it serves two.  Yeah… about that… not if I’M one of those two people.  Haha  This was crazy good.  I love the flavor of garam masala, so this was right up my alley!

St. Jude Marathon Weekend–Third Time’s a Charm (I Hope!)

The first time I ran St. Jude was in 2011.  I had (what I afterwards found out was) bronchitis with resulting costochondritis and strained intercostal muscles from the relentless cough.  I was in pain and hadn’t slept well in a week.  I was crying in the corrals because I wanted to bail so badly.  But I didn’t.  And I sucked as much as one would expect.

The second time I ran St. Jude was in 2012.  Normally one would be happy to have a sunny 70-degree day in December.  But not a runner who has trained for a marathon in 40- and 50-degree weather for the last couple of months.  My race sucked as much as one would expect.

The third time I will run St. Jude will be on December 6th of this year!

Registration for Heroes opened at 10:00 yesterday morning, and I was on it like stink on shit.  Last year I waited until open registration and it sold out before I got in (which turned out great for me because the race was CANCELLED due to an ice storm last year!).  I didn’t want to risk that again this year, so I committed to doing a little fundraising.  This is the first time I’ve made that monetary commitment, but I’m excited to be doing it!

Training and Body Comp Check-In (a "WTF?!?!" moment)

I was feeling pretty good about things this week.  After having a bad week last week (that still resulted in fat loss anyway), I got back on track this week with some good workouts and a clean diet.  Too fucking bad my scales didn’t get the memo.

Monday – Rest

Tuesday – 3 mile run + Crossfit

Wednesday – Rest

Thursday – 4 mile run

Friday – Crossfit

Saturday – Walked 3 miles with dogs (1 with Bella, 2 with Harley).  This was supposed to be a run, but I was CRAZY sore from the 25-pound kettle bell front squats the night before.

Sunday – 6 mile run + 2 mile walk with dogs

Weight – 134.8 (UP 0.9 from last week)
Body fat – 26.4% (UP 0.3% from last week)
BMI – 23 (UP 0.2 from last week)

I’m so fucking disgusted right now.  Shit just got real.  No rest for the fluffy…

Three Things Thursday

1.     My mom and sister and I had a yard sale at my house last weekend.  My sister and I know how to work a yard sale.  Mimosas:  The most socially acceptable way to catch a buzz before 8am.

2.     D designed a new logo for the shop!  This is a cheap, temporary sign that the print shop made up for us to make sure we liked the way it looks on the building before we throw down the big bucks for the real one.  We also just ordered a bunch of T-shirts sporting the new design on them.

3.     Things kind of came full circle this weekend.  My sister brought a couple of sleeping bags to the yard sale that she’d had since we were little.  Hers was The Simpsons and mine was Garfield.  Of course they didn’t sell, so she left them for my babies, who are ALWAYS stoked to have a new anything to lay on.  I slept in it when I was five, and now my five-year-old girl is sleeping on it.
