How in the world is it possible that it’s Monday already??? The weekend flew by at warp speed, and I’m sure it didn’t help matters any that I had to work on Saturday. Only till 11:30, but still! YUCK! Anyway, Saturday afternoon was pretty chill, then Saturday evening I got to cross the first item off my summer bucket list. Me and D, his sister and her husband, two of their kids, and a friend of the youngest went to the Full Throttle Distillery.
I’ve been wanting to go since it opened up, and this weekend Bad Company was playing there, so we thought it would be a good weekend to check it out! WRONG! Turns out everyone south of the Mason Dixon had the same idea. The line to even get into the bar part where they do the moonshine tastings was forever long and then once you got in, the bar was SO crowded… we didn’t even try. We just said we’d come back some other time when there wasn’t a big event going on and there wouldn’t be as many people. We went around to the back door that led into the gift shop and we could see the bar part and everything from there. It was a really cool setup though. The whole tiny town of Trimble was just packed. You literally had to park on the side of the highway that leads into Trimble and walk in. And whereas I thought the whole festival thing was on the distillery grounds….no, it took up all of the downtown area. So that meant that the cooler of beer we brought and toted all that way in was nothing more than something for someone to sit on because we weren’t allowed to have open containers in the street. LAME. Then we thought, “Well at least there’ll be good music.” WRONG AGAIN! haha Okay, it wasn’t that bad. They sounded okay, but they just didn’t play all the big songs that everyone knows them for! And when they did, they beat them into the damn ground! They made Feel Like Makin’ Love into probably a 12 minute song. He’d play some, then talk some, then try to crack some jokes, then play some more, then change it up to make it sound Caribbeanish, then change it again… it just wasn’t the great time I was hoping for! BUT! Their lead vocalist, Paul Rodgers, made a fan out of life for me. I didn’t know this, but he’s a big animal rights advocate, and they were donating a portion of the night’s merchandise sales to a no-kill shelter. Respect.
Sunday redeemed my unspectacular Saturday night though. I got up early (dearest kitty was staaaaaarving and I couldn’t go back to sleep) so I started binge rewatching season 2 of Orange is the New Black in preparation for binge watching season 3 when it’s released this weekend. Around lunch I got up and ran a couple of treadmill miles (just two because I’ve been hurting a bit again lately, but these two were pain free!) and then changed into a swim suit and hit my back deck for some quality me time. Ahhhhh, it was perfect and just what this girl needed. Sunshine, coooooooooooooooooooooooold beer (it had been on ice in the cooler for about 20 hours at that point so it had little ice flakes in it–PERFECT!!!!), a good book, Ed Sheeran channel on Pandora… what more could a girl ask for?!
I stayed out until I was sufficiently sunburned and buzzed. I had planned to go grab some groceries and cook, but I was way too buzzed for that nonsense. So I took the dogs for a walk instead. Drunk dog walking–it’s the next big thing, I’m telling you.
I hope you all had a fabulous weekend!!!
